How can I help my child's reading at home?

Parents,
Please check that your child is bringing home a book to read. Here are some easy questions to ask to see if they understand what they are reading:

1. Who are the main characters?
2. What is the main problem or issue the characters are trying to solve?
3. Do the situations in the story remind you of anything you have seen or experienced?
4. What do you think will happen next in the story?
5. Did anything the characters said or did surprise you? Why?

These questions will also help your child dig deeper and get more enjoyment from the book.

Back to School!

Parents,
I Hope you all had a wonderful Winter Break. Your child is working on practicing different passages for our Reading Benchmark next week. Please encourage them to do their best on these days so that they will be prepared. The results of the benchmark will help us determine who will be coming to Flex Days in February.
Also, please check to see if your child is bringing home an AR book to read each evening. Our goal is three points per week.
If you have any questions or concerns please contact the school at 709-5130.

Sincerely,
Mr. H
